Hi! I’m Melissa Jane Ung, born and raised in Reno, Nevada (aka the Biggest Little City in the World).
I am a proud alumna of the University of Nevada, Reno, where I graduated from the Reynolds School of Journalism with a B.A. in journalism, emphasizing in strategic communications and news, and a minor in psychology. I am currently getting my Master in Business Administration at my alma mater because apparently I enjoy chaos and ambition in equal amounts.
I live for events, live entertainment and capturing the moments that bring people together. There’s just something magical about shared moments (the kind that you remember forever), and I love being part of creating them.
My day job is pretty iconic…I am the Event Coordinator for The Great Reno Balloon Race, the world’s largest free hot air balloon event. I’ve also spent over five years building MelJane Media, where I blend creativity, social media and community-driven work. I care deeply about giving back, which is why I volunteer with the Reno Rodeo Foundation and STEP2 and support other nonprofits whenever I can.
Bonus: I am collaborating with my sister, Cat, on a joint passion project: our own sister blog platform – Like Cat & Mel! It’s our fun little corner of the internet where we share local adventures, food & lifestyle inspiration, sisterhood moments and whatever shenanigans we get into.
When I’m not working or creating something, you can catch me at Tremble for my daily pilates fix, at concerts and events or exploring something new. I am also currently training for the Biggest Little Half Marathon this April 2026 (because apparently I’m now a running girlie, too).
